  This Act enacted in 1885 regulates the incidents of tenancy in relation to government premises in West Bengal. Government premises mean any premises that are owned by the State Government or by a Government Undertaking but does not include the official residence of any person authorized to occupy any premises in consideration of the office which he holds under the State Government or a Government Undertaking for the time being. In West Bengal, the Bengal Tenancy Act of 1885 is a law that provides for the regulation of certain legal incidents of tenancy in relation to government premises. The act was passed by the Legislative Council of India on 12 December 1885 and assented by the Governor-General of India on 31 January 1886.
